How to price a sign in three clicks

Sunday, May 02, 2010

Ever wonder if the price you just quoted for that truck lettering job was in line with other shops with overhead about like yours? Now you can check that out—with our new online sign price calculator.

Last week, we launched the online version of the Sign Pricing Guide. Since 2005, we’ve been collecting data on sign pricing from successful shops from coast to coast, then publishing an annual print edition of the guide. Readers have always told us it’s an important, helpful resource. The most common request was that we make it available online.

Some said they would settle even for a downloadable PDF version, but we wanted to make it even easier to use. The result is a Web site you can use to price hundreds of everyday sign projects. And, you can do that with just three clicks.

Just like the print edition, this isn’t one-size-fits-all sign pricing. You choose a pricing level based on an hourly shop rate that matches your overhead. Click on the Sign Pricing tab on our site to learn how it works.

Best of all, access to the site is free to SignCraft subscribers. It’s another bonus we’re glad to provide to help make your life a little easier—and help you avoid those costly pricing errors. When you have to price an 18-by-24-in. sign on corrugated plastic in one breath, then graphics for a 16-ft. box truck then next, it’s easy to make an error that either costs you money or costs you the job. The guide is a reference you can use to check your pricing.

I hope you’ll put it to use—and that you’ll take a minute to let me know what you think of it once you do. I’m looking for ideas and suggestions that will help us make it even more helpful. Thanks!

Access to the Sign Pricing Guide is free when you subscribe to SignCraft. Along with six idea-packed issues of SignCraft Magazine, you'll get the print edition of the guide. Click on the Sign Pricing tab on our site, then click on the "subscribe to SignCraft" link under the headline. As with anything you buy from SignCraft, if it isn't completely satisfactory to you, we'll give you a full refund. There is absolutely no risk.

How do you access the Sign Pricing applet when you're already signed in? All links go to a sign-in page.

Also, after signing in, many pages still have a sign-in line with link near the top. These should by dynamic and not display when you are already signed in. An example is this page:

    http://www.signcraft.com/sign-pricing.aspx

It's links assume the viewer is not signed in and appear even when signed in. They should be dynamic and change with the sign in state. If the viewer is signed in they should show only a simple link to the applet.
