Airbrush artist and pinstriper Chris MacMahan will host a day-long class in the basics of airbrush graphics at Vinnie’s Customs in Elyria, Ohio. Exposures to organic solvents in lacquer thinners and screen printing inks can cause respiratory irritation, skin irritation, and neurologic problems. Scientists from the Health Hazard Evaluation (HHE) program in the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) evaluated businesses in the sign industry and made recommendations to reduce potential health hazards. See what you can do to reduce exposures by reading their HHE reports, whether you manage printing and spraying operations or work directly with solvents yourself.

During this event, organizers plan to create examples to give the apprentices to inspire their brush skills doing on their Tech course training, possibly including a glass glided panel designed by Rob Copper. Gilders are invited to join the Society of Gilders (www.societyofgilders.org ) in their annual Community Service Project in New Orleans during the week of October 24, 2010--volunteering their talents and time in the restoration of an exceptionally beautiful 155 year-old church that was a victim of hurricane Katrina. St. Alphonsus Church, which is on the National Registry of Historic Buildings, had been undergoing restoration when Katrina hit.
