It’s not uncommon for a Photoshop document to include numerous layers, a couple of text layers, and the necessary layer masks to blend the elements. Not all files will require this kind of work, but at some point, you’ll need to learn how to use the tools and features. Fortunately, there are many sources to help you learn the necessary software packages.
This type of graphic would have been almost impossible to hand letter or hand render in the past. The large format printers allow a designer to create complex images with almost unlimited textures and effects. You’ll need a high-end computer to handle the large file sizes.

Considering purchasing a large format printer? There are a lot of manufacturers and models to choose from. You’ll surely make an informed decision. Right?

Write the check for $18,000 to $28,000 for a 54-in. printer. When it arrives, open the crate, assemble everything, and load the ink cartridges. Instructions will tell you how to load the substrates and materials. You may even get some on-site training.

Now what? If clients supply perfect images, you might be set—but we all know that is far from the norm.
