Time and time again sign people have told us of three things that make selling signs easier: samples on the showroom wall, photographs of work they have done, and the ability to do a quick sketch in front of the customer. Thanks to the Internet, photos of your work may be the easiest and most versatile of the three.

It doesn’t matter whether you focus on flat vinyl signage, hand lettering, wraps or complex 3-D signs—a picture is still worth a thousand words. It’s much easier to connect with the customer when they see what you can do than if you just try to tell them. Most people have never thought about effective sign design much less learned to imagine and visualize them like you have.

The photos of effective, appealing work that you have done is your “portfolio”—whether it is a physical portfolio full of color prints or a digital photo album or your Instagram account. As a customer browses through your portfolio, making the sale gets easier and goes faster.
