After being featured in the 2009 issue of SignCraft, the financial crisis in Greece forced Periandros to look overseas to continue on his path of making fine dimensional signs. His children also pursued professional tracks outside of Greece. Now they have come back together with the new venture, combining their skills and experience as www.periandros-design.com.
The move: Following the devastating financial crisis in Greece, it became obvious that an overseas move was on the horizon. After a working stint in Sydney, Australia, together with my wife and our youngest son, we moved to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. What a change in climate from Greece!
During this time, my collaboration with House of Signs as senior designer and 3-D model specialist resulted in numerous sign awards, magazine covers and several landmark projects. Meanwhile, our eldest two children were also abroad, gaining professional training and experience as an architect and engineer. We are now thrilled to bring the family puzzle back together with our new venture, periandros-design.com.
The new business: The new family business is based in London, England. While we ramp forward and plan for our fully operational storefront and production/fabrication side, our web store is currently online with two distinct offerings for CNC operators: high resolution textures and dimensional shapes that are available for purchase and immediate download, and custom 3-D models for sign makers.
I developed the textures and shapes over many years, and it’s so fun and rewarding to see how people are incorporating them into their designs. And we are adding more shapes to our product line all the time, so there is always something new being offered.
For custom 3-D models, today’s technology allows me to share my passion for design and sign making with people from literally all over the world. I’m currently working on custom models with CNC operators in the US, Canada, South Africa and Europe—with new inquiries coming in all the time.
I just love this creative work, and it is a huge honor to share my experience in design skills with artisans and sign makers everywhere. Some are veteran sign makers, but some are new to the field and enjoying the high quality and smooth finish of the designs, which saves them time and waste. They can then use that extra time on other aspects of their business. I’ve loved hearing how pleased their clients are with the finished product, so really everyone is benefiting here.
Next phase: Our daughter Vanessa is an accomplished architect and our son Panagiotis is an engineer and skilled sign designer and fabricator. Together with Kathy, my wife, and our youngest son, Michail, who is an apprentice designer under his more experienced family members, we finally look to reunite as a family and bring all our skills together.
