In every issue, SignCraft gives a few sign makers an imaginary project. We ask them to do a sketch of the sign they might have produced, and to quote a price for the job. Most of the details are left to the designer’s imagination. The object is to see how different sign makers approach the same project. Here’s the scenario these sign makers were given:
A couple stops by to see about a sign for their creekside vacation cottage that they call “Tall Pines.” They have seen your 3D sign work and want two single-faced signs about 2- or 3-ft. wide on two posts that they can install perpendicular to the road at the driveway that winds back to the cottage. When they see a sample of gold leaf lettering in your office, they immediately say that they like that look and tell you that they “want something really distinctive and cool.” They also want the street number on the signs. Make a drawing of what you might have suggested to this customer and quote a price. Feel free to include any comments about how you might handle the sale.
